SUMMARY: Jesus shows his enemies, his disciples, and us how to deal with sinners.

APPLICATION: Too often, sin is allowed to be a permanent means of separating people, with no turning back. For Jesus, sin was a means of engaging someone who needed his forgiveness and his love. What a lesson for our world today!

APPLICATION: Our choices in life all have consequences — for good or bad. Choosing Christ is the greatest choice we can make, no matter how (literally) attached we may be to aspects of this life. These are serious issues because the choices have eternal consequences.

SUMMARY: The disciples are arguing over who of them was the greatest. Jesus corrects their perceptions of greatness.

APPLICATION: Jesus shows the disciples — and us — that greatness is not found in a passion for position but rather a passion for ministry, for servanthood, the same passions that Jesus himself personifies.
