SUMMARY: The first of our looks at some specific prophecies of a coming Messiah, a Savior sent to repair a broken relationship.

APPLICATION: God first revealed his plans for salvation in the shadows of man’s first sin in the Garden of Eden. While sin would bring untold sorrow and tragedy, God could fix it — and, in Bethlehem, he did!

SUMMARY: Jesus heals the daughter of a Syro-Phoenician woman of demon possession.

APPLICATION: This story takes place outside the regions of Galilee and Judea, and takes place outside the people of Judaism. Yet he has compassion on a woman and her need, and responds to her great faith. Likewise we are to show compassion, we are to see the needs, of all those around us, and be absolutely willing to go absolutely anywhere and to anyone on behalf of the gospel message.

SUMMARY: Jesus declares the meaning of his life to his disciples.

APPLICATION: Jesus doesn’t simply want us to know about him. He wants to become part of us, as literally as bread becomes a part of us when eaten. This isn’t a matter of acquaintance; this is a matter of lifestyle!

SUMMARY: Jesus meeting the tax collector Zacchaeus, and the profound effect Christ had on his life.

APPLICATION: Meeting Christ changes everything. It changed Zacchaeus, it changes us, and it is Christ’s model for the changing the world. Depending on the power of man to change the world will never work; depending on Christ to change the world will never fail.
