SUMMARY: This week’s look at the parables of Christ focuses on another famous one — the Prodigal Son.

APPLICATION: God has given us an amazing love — but he also gave us a free will that allows us to choose our own paths. Thankfully, he also offers us the opportunity to be “welcomed home” into his family. Are we ready to acknowledge that life with him is better than life without him?

APPLICATION: “Who is my neighbor?” is the question posed to Christ by a listener. His answer to that question is still the standard by which we should see all those around us.

8/10/2008 – “Stormy Weather”

TEXT: Mark 4:35-41

SUMMARY: Jesus and the disciples are caught out on the Sea of Galilee as a fierce storm hits, testing the disciples’ faith in who Jesus really is.

APPLICATION: So much of the stress and tension we experience in our lives is due to the fact that we forget who Jesus is, who it is who loves us and has promised to accompany us every day of our lives. As the disciples learned, he is more than any storm that comes our way.

TEXT: Luke 8:19-21

SUMMARY: Jesus’ immediate family is trying to see him, but Jesus points to another family as being his priority.

APPLICATION: While earthly family is indeed both a gift from God and a blessing, it is the spiritual family of fellow Christians to which God may call our ultimate loyalty.
