Oakdale's congregation has been working on remembering new bible verses.
Why remember bible verses?
Well, because God tells us to!
Psalm 119 verse 11 says "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You."
Colossians 3:16 tells us to "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
Charles Swindol, well-known pastor and radio program host of Insight for Living has this to say about memorizing scripture.
"I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. That's right. No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified."
Now we know why it is important to remember scripture. Here are some of the verses that we have be working on recently.
"Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered"
-- David, Psalm 32
"Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you"
-- David, Psalm 9:10 NIV
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with lovingkindness"
-- God speaking, Jeremiah 31:3 NIV
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." Matthew 26:41 NIV
"(T)he sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so." Romans 8:7 NIV
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because
God is love." 1 John 4:8 NIV
